Does my vote really count?

Seriously...I know it's a privelige and a responsibility to vote, but do individual votes REALLY count? I'm completely illiterate when it comes to politics, but do I understand correctly that even foreign nations have a say in who our next president is? I could be totally wrong, like I said, I'm not very political. It just seems to me that our democracy isn't really a democracy. Any input?
