Does anyone who watches lost know if John Locke's name is a coincidence?

in social studies i learned that a man named John Locke in the age of enlightenment wrote a book about human rights and said all men were created equal with certain unalienable rights, such a the right to life, liberty, and property. Jefferson used these ideas in the writing of the Declaration of Independence. What does this have to do with Lost though?
