Does anyone have any info abut doula's???

I called my doula when I found out I am prego and she was happy and told me to call her when it was confirmed. I called her but haven't heard anything back. All I know about doulas is they help you prepare for childbirth and help out during labor. I have no idea how much they cost or anything else. Like do you only see your doula later in pregnancy?
